Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death for Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, Who Was Set to Table Impeachment Motion Against Governor Sakaja

Friday, April 25, 2025 – Government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor has confirmed that Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA), Joel Munuve, died as a result of a blood clot and lack of oxygen.

Munuve collapsed on Tuesday, April 22, while at work in his ward office in Nairobi. He was rushed to a private hospital along Kiambu Road, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His sudden passing sparked public concern and speculation, particularly following his recent announcement to begin collecting signatures for the impeachment of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In response to the growing controversy, the family’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, revealed that a total of seven pathologists were involved in the postmortem examination. The team included representatives appointed by the family, the hospital, the Nairobi County Assembly, the Nairobi County Office, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. Over 15 forensic officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were also present during the process.

"The team will be led by Dr. Johansen Oduor," Omari stated.

On Wednesday, April 24, Governor Sakaja called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into Munuve’s death, cautioning against politicizing the tragedy.

“Death is a very serious matter—it’s not something to be played with or politicized,” Sakaja said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining objectivity throughout the investigation.
