Friday, April 25, 2025 – A female Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was found dead in her Kahawa Wendani residence on Thursday morning, in what police are investigating as a suspected suicide.
According to a preliminary police report filed on April 24, 2025, an officer identified as Spte Rebecca Sifua Mabonga of 63 OCC was discovered unresponsive on the bathroom floor of her apartment, located on the first floor of Block B5, unit 166.
The report indicates that Mabonga had returned home from work the previous evening at approximately 5:30 p.m., appearing visibly distressed. She reportedly went straight to her bedroom in tears.
Later that night, she briefly left the apartment and returned before midnight.
At around 1:00 a.m., her partner—also a KDF officer, identified as 160457 Spte Abdullah Salimo of 2nd Ord—allegedly found her hanging in the bathroom with a piece of cloth upon entering the bedroom.
The report does not provide details regarding any emergency response efforts.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
Sources familiar with the matter have linked Mabonga to a prominent political family, stating she is believed to be the daughter of former Bumula Member of Parliament and current UDA official, Mwambu Mabonga.
The Kenya Defence Forces have not yet released an official statement.
Mabonga was reportedly stationed at Kahawa Garrison and shared the apartment with her partner.
Her body was transported to a local mortuary as investigations continue.
