Nairobi County Government Orders Immediate Closure of All Naivas Supermarket Outlets

Nairobi, Kenya – May 14, 2025 – The Nairobi County Health Committee, acting on the authority of Governor Johnson Sakaja's administration, has today ordered the immediate closure of all Naivas Supermarket branches within Nairobi City County.

Speaking at the Naivas Supermarket branch on Moi Avenue in the Central Business District, the Health Committee, led by MCA Maurice Ochieng, stated that this drastic action was taken due to the discovery of expired food products being sold on the supermarket shelves.

The supermarket chain will only be allowed to resume business after conducting thorough product tests and obtaining a clearance certificate from the Nairobi County Health Committee.

Naivas Supermarket is the largest supermarket chain in Kenya, with over 100 outlets across the country.

This closure will undoubtedly have a significant impact on Nairobi residents who rely on these stores for their daily groceries.
